Frequently asked questions
My TV isn't found.
TV Remote works with Samsung Tizen and LG webOS smart TVs, and both the phone and the TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Check that:
- the TV is switched on and connected to the same network — not a guest network, and not a separate network band that the router isolates;
- Local Network access is allowed (iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network);
- the router doesn't have "AP isolation" or "client isolation" turned on, which blocks devices from seeing each other.
If it still isn't found, tap Add TV and enter the TV's IP address, which you can find in the TV's network settings. Discovery uses Bonjour; some older TVs need a legacy discovery method this build doesn't include.
No pairing prompt appears on the TV.
On first connection the TV shows an Allow prompt that you accept with the TV's own remote. If nothing appears:
- make sure the TV is switched on and awake when you tap Connect;
- check that you entered the right IP address and that it's your TV (the app shows the name and IP before connecting);
- try again — some TVs only show the prompt while the connection attempt is in progress;
- look in the TV's settings for a list of authorised or connected devices and remove an old entry for this phone.
Can I turn the TV on from the app?
No. This version can't power a TV on over the network: wake-on-LAN and the legacy discovery that some TVs need require a capability this build doesn't have. Power off works once connected.
The app explains this in Settings → Wake & legacy discovery. The TV must already be on when you connect.
Typing on the TV doesn't work.
Open the keyboard bar and type. The TV only accepts text when one of its own text fields is active — for example a search box. Select the field with the TV remote first; the app tells you when the TV's text field is active. Some TV models don't accept text input at all.
The touchpad doesn't move anything.
Switch to Touchpad mode with the mode control, then swipe to move and tap to select. Some TVs support only directional keys on certain screens or inputs, so the button pad may work where the touchpad doesn't.
The app list is empty or doesn't match my TV.
The app list comes from the TV and is only available while connected. Not every model exposes it, and the list can take a few seconds to load. Reconnect if it fails, and use search to filter. Touch and hold an app to add it to Favorites.
Some keys don't respond.
Available keys depend on the TV model and the current input. Volume, channel, media and input keys work only where the TV accepts those commands; number keys only matter for channel entry. If a key does nothing, try the same action with the TV's own remote to see whether the TV supports it in that state.
I denied Local Network access.
Without Local Network access the app can't find or reach the TV. Open iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network and turn on TV Remote, then reopen the app.
I have more than one TV.
Add each TV separately and switch between them from the TVs list. Removing a TV deletes its saved pairing, so you'll need to approve the connection on that TV again next time.
What data does the app send?
Commands go straight from your phone to your TV over your local network. Your TV list, IP addresses, MAC addresses and pairing details stay on your phone; pairing keys are kept in the iOS Keychain. We don't run a server for this app, and it has no account, ads, analytics or tracking. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I remove all saved TVs?
Open Settings → Clear local data. This removes every saved TV, favorite and pairing key from this phone. You can also remove a single TV from the TVs list.
Is this an official Samsung or LG app?
No. TV Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Samsung or LG. Brand names are used only to describe which TVs the app can control, and available features depend on your TV model.
