Frequently asked questions
Does DocsKit upload my documents?
No. Your documents, scans, signatures and recognized text are stored on your iPhone, and text recognition runs on the device. You don't need an account, and DocsKit has no ads and no tracking or analytics SDKs. The only data that leaves your device is what Apple and our subscription provider RevenueCat need to process purchases. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Where are my documents stored? Are they backed up?
Documents are kept inside DocsKit on your iPhone. They are included in your iCloud or computer backup of the device, if you use one. DocsKit has no cloud sync of its own.
Deleting the app deletes your documents unless you have a backup. To keep a copy elsewhere, open a document and use Share to save it to Files, send it, or print it.
What's free and what needs Pro?
Free: scanning, importing PDFs and images, reading, searching, page management (reorder, rotate, add, delete), adding or removing a PDF password, Face ID lock, sharing and printing.
Free with a daily limit: Merge, Split and Images to PDF share 3 uses per day. The count resets at local midnight, and the Merge and Split buttons show how many are left today.
DocsKit Pro: text recognition (OCR) and searchable PDF, editing and signing (add text, highlight, draw, signature), and unlimited Merge, Split and Images to PDF. Current plans and prices are shown in the app before you buy.
The scanner doesn't open, or asks for the camera.
DocsKit uses the camera only to scan paper documents. If you denied access, go to iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and turn on DocsKit.
If your device doesn't support the document scanner, DocsKit says so. You can still take photos and turn them into a PDF with Images to PDF.
How do I make a scanned PDF searchable?
Open OCR (Pro), pick the document and the recognition languages, then tap Recognize text. You can copy the text, or tap Save as searchable PDF to save a copy whose text can be selected and searched in other PDF apps. Recognition may contain errors — please check important text.
I forgot the password of a PDF.
We can't recover it. DocsKit doesn't store PDF passwords — the password is written into the PDF file itself, and anyone opening that file in any app will need it. To remove a password, open Remove password and enter the current password.
How does the Face ID lock work?
Turn it on in Settings → Security. DocsKit then asks for Face ID (or Touch ID) when you open it. If that fails, you can use your device passcode. To use the lock, your iPhone must have a passcode set. DocsKit doesn't store any password for this.
I deleted a document by mistake.
Deleted documents go to Trash (in Settings or Tools), where you can restore them. Trash isn't emptied automatically. Once you choose Delete permanently or Empty Trash, the document can't be recovered.
Will my highlights and signatures show up in other apps?
Yes. Highlights, text and drawings are saved into the PDF as standard annotations, and signatures are flattened into the page when saved, so they appear in other PDF readers.
How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with, then tap Restore purchases in DocsKit's Settings.
How do I cancel my subscription or request a refund?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open the iPhone Settings app → tap your name → Subscriptions → DocsKit. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid renewal. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Refunds are handled by Apple — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue App Store refunds ourselves.
DocsKit is using a lot of storage.
Go to Settings → Clear cache. This removes page thumbnails and temporary files; your documents aren't touched. Documents in Trash still use space until you empty it.
How do I change DocsKit's language?
DocsKit is available in English and Simplified Chinese and follows your iPhone's language. To change it for DocsKit only, tap Language in DocsKit's Settings, which opens its page in iPhone Settings.
