Frequently asked questions
AR measuring won't start, or the camera view is black.
AR Measure uses the camera to see the scene and place measuring points.
- If you denied camera access, open iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and turn on AR Measure.
- AR needs a well-lit, textured surface. Point the camera at the floor or an object for a few seconds so tracking can start, and move the device slowly.
- On devices without AR support, the app says the tool isn't supported instead of showing the camera.
- If another app is using the camera, close it and reopen AR Measure.
How accurate is it?
Every result is an estimate and shows an approximate error range. Under good conditions the typical error is about 1% on devices with a LiDAR Scanner and 1–3% on devices without one.
Accuracy drops when you measure longer than about 5 m, aim at white walls, glass or mirrors, work in low light, or use very steep angles. The best range is roughly 0.5–3 m. Please check critical dimensions with a tape measure.
Why does the app show tips while I measure?
These are live tracking hints. The app tells you when points didn't land on a detected surface, when points aren't on one flat plane, when you're too close or too far, or when the range is long enough that tracking drift adds up. Adjusting the device or moving closer usually improves the result.
Do I need a LiDAR Scanner?
No. Every measuring tool works without LiDAR; LiDAR-capable iPhone and iPad Pro models simply give more precise results, especially at short range and on flat surfaces. The app detects the capability automatically and shows it in the accuracy estimate.
How do I measure an area, an angle or a chain of distances?
- Distance — tap two points.
- Chain — keep adding connected segments; the running total is shown.
- Area — outline a surface; you get its area and perimeter.
- Height — measure vertical height, with the slant distance too.
- Angle — three points or two lines, with the slope.
How do I change between metric and imperial?
Open Settings → Units and choose Metric or Imperial. For imperial you can also choose feet and inches or decimal inches.
Changing units doesn't change your saved measurements — they're stored in meters and converted for display.
Where are my saved measurements?
Open the Records tab. You can rename a record, add a note, mark it as a favorite, and search names and notes. Records are stored on your device and are included in your normal device backup.
Settings → Delete all data removes all records and thumbnails; it can't be undone. Deleting the app removes them too.
The level doesn't look right.
Lay the device flat to use the bubble, or stand it on its edge to measure an angle. To calibrate, put the device on a surface you know is level and tap Set zero.
If it still looks off after using it for a while, recalibrate the same way, or use Settings → Reset level calibration.
The sound meter doesn't match my other meter.
Readings are approximate and uncalibrated by default. To improve them, place a reference sound level meter next to your phone, read its value with the same weighting, and enter it under Calibrate; the difference is saved as an offset.
You can switch between dB(A), dB(C) and dB(Z), and see the average (Leq), the maximum and octave bands. The iPhone microphone isn't calibrated for sound pressure, so this isn't suitable for occupational health, legal or compliance measurements. If another app starts using audio, measurement pauses.
Does the app record audio or upload camera images?
No. Camera images are used live for measuring and are not saved by the app. Audio from the microphone is analyzed live to estimate the level and is never recorded, stored or uploaded. There's no account, no ads and no tracking. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Why can't I use the floor plan tool?
Room scanning isn't available in this version. The entry is shown so you can read what it will do; tapping it opens an explanation rather than starting a scan.
How do I reset the app?
Open Settings → Delete all data to remove every saved measurement and thumbnail. To reset the level or sound meter calibration only, use the buttons under Settings → Calibration.
